Dr. Phu was the principal researcher of the USAID-funded Lower Mekong Public Policy Initiative (LMPPI) which investigated the water-food-energy nexus to facilitate public policy dialogs on environmentally sustainable economic development, raising agricultural productivity, and improving household livelihoods in the five countries of the Lower Mekong Basin, including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam during 2014-2018. Phu is now leading the five-year Natural Capital Management Project with a mission to protect the Mekong River Delta from unsustainable use of natural resources for economic development, rising threats of climate change in the region, upstream hydropower development and ineffective local water governance.
